Introduction To Sailing Day Sail Format (1-day outing)
This is one of the entry-level Standards in the series of Sail Canada Standards on sailing keelboats and on cruising. This Standard is intended to provide novice boaters with the opportunity to experience the joys of boating. The session may also be used for the purpose of building crew teamwork skills on the water. Start Keelboat Sailing Day Sail Format (2 days on water)
To be able to sail safely as the crew of a sloop-rigged keelboat 6 to 12 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in 5 – 20 knots (not gusting over 25 knots) of wind by day. This Standard is ideal for individuals with limited on-water experience. The focus is on the initial development of practical skills while participating in the operation of a keelboat. *No prior experience necessary View Start Keelboat Sailing
Basic “Crew” Standard Day Sail Format (3 days on the water)
To be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as the competent crew of a sloop-rigged keelboat of 6 to 10 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. The focus of this Standard is on the development of crew-oriented basic sailing skills, seamanship, and knowledge needed to act as a competent crew. *Prerequisite: Start Keelboat Sailing – These two courses can combine to complete “Basic Crew Standard” View Basic Crew Standard
Basic “Cruising” Standard Day Sail Format (3 days on the water)
To be able to cruise safely in familiar waters as both skipper and crew of a sloop-rigged keelboat of 6 to 10 meters with an outboard or inboard motor in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. The focus of this standard is on the development of basic sailing and seamanship skills as well as the knowledge needed to make the decisions expected of a skipper. *Prerequisite: Start Keelboat Sailing – These two courses combine to complete “Basic Cruising Standard” View Basic Cruising Standard

Basic Coastal Navigation In Classroom
To be able to plan and safely navigate by day in Canadian coastal and inland local waters. This introductory course offers basic knowledge of navigation theory and is the initial course in a comprehensive set of courses offered by Sail Canada on vessel navigation. Prerequisites

To be able to cruise safely as the crew of a sailing yacht of 9 to 12 meters, sloop rigged with an inboard engine, in moderate wind and sea conditions by day. The standard emphasizes on-the-water skills at a level acceptable for extended cruises in coastal and inland waters and for bareboat chartering. *Prerequisite requirements prior to taking the standard.
